I was glumly using a steak-knife to impale yet another string of those tiresome little inflated plastic pillows they use for packing nowadays, feeling like some sort of mass plastic murderer, when I thought: does anyone remember excelsior? The wood shavings that used to pad shipping boxes, I assume shredded from lumberyard waste, which is probably now more profitable as that repellent comminuted wood product that all your furniture is made from. Unless you kick up a fuss and go hunting for solid boards. Good luck.
Now we have these plastic peanuts that stick to everything, or bubble wrap, which is fun to pop except it scares the cats, and sometimes huge lengths of crumpled paper (boring).
I miss excelsior. It was kind of fun to throw around.
