Cinderella Of The Woodwinds

All week long, my local classical station has been using that phrase to promote a bassoon recital that airs tonight.

The first time the announcer said “…sometimes known as…” I felt a moment’s dizziness, because the only thing I’ve ever heard the bassoon called was “farting bedpost.”

I was going to Tweet back and set WETA straight, but I probably wouldn’t get a new follower that way.

  1. That … is hilarious. And it doesn’t make sense. A bassoon is a proper woodwind, not the ugly stepsister of woodwinds. It’s just a big noisy weird thing really good only for that hysterical moment in the Haydn symphony slow movement.
