I've been on Boston's subway and also their commuter trains to the burbs just once, but enjoyed the transportation.

I love rail of all sorts. Like your albino ex I took the rails everywhere when I was younger and living in cities with subways and elevated lines.

This post is old but I cannot remain silent when confronted with these eldritch horrors. Newfangled toys of a perverted science such as Mythoscope will break open that which should remain fastened and doom Mankind to the privations of nameless terrors beyond imagining!

I had wondered about the nickel thing too.

They make boxer shorts with that "Mind the Gap" motto, which I find delightful.

I never understood why Charley's wife didn't give him a nickel instead of a sandwich....

I always wish I had picked up the London Underground T which says "Mind the Gap".

Here is my T: http://mudpuddle.wordpress.com/2009/11/28/sausage-skin/

To healingmagichands. Bourbons are not allowed to add any sweeteners, just like Scotch Malts. Caramel spirit is sometimes allowed, which is flavourless. I wouldn't knock bourbons - a good one, like George T Stagg which scored 94 points in Jim Murray's whisky bible isn't far off the score for the top Scotch. :-) If the corn sweetness is too much for you, there are plenty of bourbons out there that are far less so, and very very pleasant.
